Electronic Throttle Diagnostics

🔴 High-Visibility Edition — Large Text for Garage Use

🛑 DO NOT DRIVE YET

Do not assume the vehicle is fixed because it revs normally now. If you pull out into traffic and the electronic loop drops out again, the computer will instantly slam back into lock-down mode, leaving you stranded with zero acceleration.

1. System Loop Explainer

Your vehicle utilizes a "Drive-By-Wire" configuration. There is no physical steel wire cable running from your foot to the engine block.

If the computer loses tracking connection for even a single millisecond, it triggers Limp Mode to protect against a runaway engine.

2. Diagnostic Scanning Steps

Read the computer's onboard memory logs using an OBD-II scan tool to isolate the source code.

OBD-II Port (Located Under Dashboard)
  1. Locate the 16-pin connector port near your left knee underneath the steering wheel panel.
  2. Connect the diagnostic scanner plug securely.
  3. Turn ignition key to the ON position (dash lights light up), but keep engine off.
  4. Read codes and match them using the index chart below.
Trouble Code Component Target
P2138 / P2122 APP Sensor (Gas Pedal Unit)
P2135 / P0222 Throttle Body (Sticking Flap)
3. Action Plan & AutoZone Pricing

Option A: Replace Gas Pedal Unit

Fixes sensor wear dead-spots inside the bracket mechanics.

AutoZone Duralast Assembly:$95.99 - $199.99
Tools Needed:10mm wrench / socket set
  1. Disconnect the negative (-) battery cable terminal to cut circuit power lines.
  2. Locate the wire clip connection block at the top of the pedal neck arm, depress locking tab, and slide it off.
  3. Unscrew the 2 or 3 securing nuts anchoring the unit base onto the vehicle firewall.
  4. Bolt the replacement pedal frame assembly onto structural stud mounts and snap your connection wiring harness plug home securely.

Option B: Clean/Replace Throttle Body

Cleans away built-up fuel carbon soot keeping the intake plate from opening smoothly.

Target Area: Clean Carbon Gunk Around Valve Edges
CRC Throttle Body Cleaner Can:$6.49 - $9.99
AutoZone Duralast New Module:$139.99 - $201.99

💡 PRO-TIP: CLEAN IT FIRST BEFORE BUYING A NEW COMPONENT

  1. Disconnect your battery system.
  2. Loosen the worm-gear clamp and detach the thick rubber air intake tube path away from the metallic throttle face neck housing.
  3. Saturate a clean shop rag or soft clean toothbrush with the specialized throttle cleaner. Do not dump raw spray fluid into electronic gear casing seams.
  4. Manually push open the circular throttle blade flap and clean dark accumulation deposits off margins until it is bare steel. Reassemble and check the system behavior.
